I want to get your guys' opinions on this matter as I think porn has started to effect our culture more than people are letting on.

What is your guys' opinions on porn? Is it bad? Is it good?

    My opinion:

I don't think porn is good, but I think porn can be harmless in small dosages... as long as people realize that it is nothing more than fantasy, and don't become so dependent on it that their sex drive is gone. I think anything more than probably once a week is borderline bad, but every person is different.

I, myself, became dependent on it for a lot of my awkward, angsty years to the point where it just made me awkward with a lack of sex drive and really kind of made me think of sex in a non-healthy way.

I gave it up and recently have discovered there are large communities out there doing the same.

At the same time though, a lot of people learn to explore sex in fun ways through it and I think if it didn't exist, rape cases would go up from people with too intense sexual urges to control.

I dunno, that's my uneducated opinion on it. What's yours?

Honestly? I've never bothered to put that much thought into it. Sounds to me like you're over-analyzing it, but that's just me. *shrug*

Porn addiction is a real thing.

If you can make the distinction that porn doesn't equal reality, there's no harm in it.

Moderation is key, just like everything else in life.

Would I suggest or encourage anyone watch porn? Probably not. Most people would feel the same way. It for sure is not what I would generally call a positive thing.

However porn does come in handy on deployment...puns aplenty.

Porn—in one form or another—has been around since day 1.

    It fulfills a human desire.

    It's consensual.

Just try to not let it run your life, and everything should be okay.

Porn helped improve my sex life as I learnt techniques and positions. Nothing hardcore however, though I appreciate that porn fantasises don't equal reality.

Would you want your mom, wife or daughter doing porn?

Or is there a distinction between consumption and production?

Mind you I'm not saying I've never watched porn. I sure as hell have but I don't think it's healthy either...

Now, is it informative? That's a different conversation altogether.

What about your father, husband, or son? Do you feel like there's a strong difference between these questions? Why?

According to pro-life logic, you already killed billions of babies watching porn.

Lack of a sex drive from watching too much porn can be an issue, and the frequent masturbation that usually goes along with that can lower testosterone levels, leading to a lowered sex drive.

like Teh Don Ditty said, moderation is key. Porn in and of itself isn't harmful. Looking it up once or twice a week won't hurt anybody. Sometimes even a full week of the stuff isn't bad, so long as you don't go all out like that all that often. But if you're watching it every day for years on end, you're not gonna be quite as excited about actual sex with a real live person because you've already been inundated with landing strips and areolas to the point they hold no surprises, and you've since spanked yourself into a sexual torpor.

I watch porn quite frequently. I mean, I'm married, so I gotta know that someone is having sex! :p

It has certainly never decreased my sex drive. In fact, my wife is constantly annoyed with how much drive I have.

I watch then I don't but I masturbate often and still have sex often. now only once or twice a week because I am 50 and sick some. But if anything for me it just primed the pump. wife and I could have sex twice a day and I would still masturbate. Glad for the most part my wife could keep up Now she sometimes does more then I can handle it.

I'm not. I'm just saying ME watching porn certainly exasperated my problems and took away all healthy sex drive I was supposed to have in my teenage years.

Could you please provide a scientific/medical source for that assertion.

    Thanks...

I don't know about lower testosterone, but there certainly are studies out there suggesting porn consumption *CAN be harmful.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSF82AwSDiU

Notice I didn't say IS harmful, or DEFINITELY harmful, I said CAN be. I think for the majority of people, porn is a perfectly healthy activity.

And I'm not quite sure what you mean by that?

Personally, I see no problem with it. Its not all fantasy, example: homemade porn.

I do know that frequent masturbation does lower testosterone levels slightly, but my mistake was thinking that low testosterone levels automatically leads to a lower sex drive.

Which it can...potentially, but doesn't always.

I do think that too much porn over an extended period of time can lead to a bit of burn out, though.

I'm curious as well, because I recall from my human biology class from way back, sex increases testosterone production after, especially during the sleep.

Even anticipation of sex increases testosterone. As most of us guys know, even if you know you're getting laid hours away later that night, you'll tend to have erections all day. And if it doesn't happen you get highly aggressive and irritable from all the free testosterone, and no outlet for it.

Masturbation is sure to have a similar affect.

I thought this might be of interest. It doesn't address testosterone levels specifically, but does suggest that the masturbatory orgasm has a different set of physiological effects from the orgasm produced during sex with a partner.

The link is to a reasonably reliable site.

Maybe for you young'uns, but as you get older it gets harder (no pun intended) to get your little soldier to stand at attention. Viagra/Cialis wouldn't be targeted at older guys if this wasn't true.

Wouldn't know. I'm Master of my Domain, King of the County, Lord of the Manor.

I know that just from my experiences with how I act and feel after doing either/or, both from a physical and psychological standpoint. And it's almost like the same basic function produces almost has polar opposite effects on me.

Like a good round of sex leaves me relaxed but energetic, almost like I feel after a workout. I also tend to be more cocky, and, for lack of a better word, more cuddle-prone. Basically I turn into an overly handsy arrogant bastard who wants to go out and do something exciting after the afterglow subsides a bit.

But pulling one off (to abuse the technical term), relaxes me to the point I'm almost lethargic and apathetic. If anyone calls me up, and I've just recently finished doing the deed, I probably won't want to go, no matter how fun it sounds. And if I do, I feel like I'm having to force myself into it.
