    Does anyone think that the price of the PS2 will drop after the release of the PS3? I want to (finally) pick up a PS2 but am going to wait if I can get a new one for under or close to $100.

    I believe the current ps2 is $129 -- a price drop to $100 could be possible but I wouldn't expect it to happen until next year

    the system is £99 here, which is so ridiculous. Gamecube is £60, Xbox is £99 but comes with a HDD. Sony are just pushing it. A price drop and I'd get one.

    Not when 30 dollars could go towards a game.

    Plus I'd feel stupid buying it at $129 right now if the price dropped 30 dollars 2 days after I buy it.

    Maybe I'll pick it up with the 30 dollars I'd have otherwise spent on the system.

    why are they gonna drop the price? Isn't it still the best selling system in the world? The PS3 isn't really a rival to it since it will be in such sort supply. Lots of billy's and susie's will get PS2's this xmas as it is still way cheaper than a Wii/360/PS3 and has tons of cheap games...

    Just BUY it. for the sake of 30 dollars does it matter?

    Don't get me wrong I'm not rich or anything with money to throw away, infact I'm a student but I had no problem at all buying a PS2 when they were about £200 and then I got another when they went all small in size and dropped to £99 because I felt I needed a new one and I'm glad I did.

    My younger sister also has one in the same house as me because I wouldn't always let her use mine. My point is just that they're worth the money.

    Although I do draw the line at £500 for a PS3 :p I'll be waiting a bit before I get myself one of those

    Sony doesn't need to drop the price-- at least not yet. Even though the DS has gotten all the publicity this year, the PS2 has been a quiet success this year-- outselling the XBOX 360 in the US.

    prices generally here in Ireland

    PS2 is €149 here,
    Xbox is €129/139,
    Gamecube = next to impossible to find,
    NDS €149 (nintendogs packs)
    NDS Lite €149
    PSP = €239/254
    360 = €299/409

    Here's the interesting ones

    Wii = €269.99

    So much for €249 in europe. Obviously Ireland doesnt count :rolleyes:

    and it's not just Nintendo. Sony seems to think Ireland should have a different price compared to the rest of europe too.

    €629 as opposed to €599 (as if it wasnt expensive enough)

    Exactly. It's the principle of not giving money to Sony when they demand more for their older, weaker system. Would I give money to a company as cheeky as that? not really. It's the same price as the DS Lite, the frikkin DS Lite!
    The PSP is ridiculous too. £200 for the giga pack. No. sorry.

    You slay me...you really do!:)

    I've was think about getting a Silver PS2, but with the Wii right around the corner I'd feel a but silly because it won't be played that much. And the fact there has yet to be a game for the PS2, that I felt was a must play

    I thought about getting a PS2 to tide me over. Nothing decent has come out on the Xbox or Gamecube for a long time so I figured I'd play catchup on the PS2 after initially selling mine a few months after launch. But then I saw the price, and I remembered about Lik Sang :mad:

    Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the PSone drop it's price to $99 once the PS2 was launched -- and I do recall the PS2 having a significant launch shortage.

    I'm just saying it wouldn't suprise me if Sony dropped the PS2 to $99 down the road once the PS3's supply increases to cover the high demand.
