You suck. And by the way, I'm on the way over! That's a shibby setup, man. My DREAM is to have one of those.

Thx - it's basically a 4 year project, originally 2005-2008 for 7.1, pay as I go during November-March and all DIY, then I did the upgrade to 11.3 and acoustics 2011-2013, pay as I go and all DIY.

amazing setup! mind giving a breakdown of all the components? and if you dont mind pricing on said components for reference? (understand if you dont)

As reference to my HT and it's budget/real costs

Front Proj: Sony VPL-VW60; say $4k for PJ
+ a-lens UH380 on slide, ; $2k for a b-stock, or more for new
with Darbee Darblet video processor; $300,
A/V: Denon AVR-4520CI ; approx $2.2k
Emotiva XPA-3 amp; $600 - I have 11.3 set-up so needed this as no AVR currently has 11 amps, mine has 9
Screen: 130" DIY 2.35:1 curved screen; $600-ish, if you buy $1k or so
11.3 speakers: Paradigm Monitor 9's for front, CC-390 center, 4 ADP-390 for rear and back surround, Monitor bookshelf for wides/fronts.; I have about $4k in these, maybe slightly more.
>>Consider DIY speakers via the DIY sound group as alternative

subwoofer: 4 x 15" IB array on Sub1, plus 18" and 15" Stereo Integrity cubes on Sub2; My IB sub $1.3k, the 2 added cube subs $800, total $2.1k
>>Again DIY soundgroup has sub cubes, or better yet now Parts Express is carrying them with drivers bundled to save $$
speaker wire: 500 feet of 14ga/4c, all runs equal length.; $250? (copper prices change too fast)
Seats: 2 rows thru Roman $2.5k
DIY Acoustics: $1.3k

My gear + acoustics + seats total comes to $23k-ish, then add in carpet + pad ($2k top tier), drywall/soundproofing/etc ($2k), AV rack ($500), remotes ($500), $500 12ga/14ga wiring, lighting $500 (fixtures & what not, also add $750 if grafik eye), misc stuff $1k (riser, a-lens slide, etc) .
So yea $30k you should budget for.....

I thought I posted this before, but it may have been a separate thread.

We don't have a dedicated HT, but we mainly watch movies in our family room. I have added a Directv Genie since these pics were taken, but everything else is pretty much the same (sorry about the wide angle distortion in the last pic).

Sweet....one suggestion, bundle up those cables (get longer ones or extensions if you have to) and use some cable braid to route them all in one packet down behind the stand.

It's on my list to do!

More upgrades on the way though :

- Denon 4520 or Arcam 600 receiver
- Denon 3313 blu-ray player
- ISF calibration on the VT65
- Synology NAS storage
- PS4 and Astro A50 headset
- BK XS400 Subwoofer

When all this is in, then the cable routing will be done :)

Very nice! May I inquire about the entertainment center? And I'm assuming you paid no less than $1600 for it.

Nice. My only gripe is that I feel the curtains dumb-down the room a bit. You have a nice set-up but some upgraded curtains would make the room look much better IMO.

Macbook-Based HTPC

Just got a new Macbook Pro, so using my old Late 2007 Macbook to power my home theatre. I formally used a jailbroken AppleTV 2 w/ XBMC, however after foolishly upgrading from OS 4 to 5, the AppleTV could never quite run XBMC properly (was choppy and struggled w/ HD video).

The Macbook also runs two drives that are accessible over the network. My primary computer uses one as a time machine back-up drive. Also allows me to access all my movies in my bedroom on my Macbook Pro.

Still desperately need a subwoofer for my setup, but haven't bitten the bullet and bought one yet (audio equipment is ridiculously overpriced in Canada).

Still a bit of a work in progress, need to shore up the wiring on the rack - we’re also in post-Christmas mode, so there are decorations and whatnot that will be swapped.

Figured this would be interesting for this thread: I’ve generally been a naysayer about mounting TVs over the fireplace: I see them mounted so it's like sitting in a planetarium ... that being said, for us, if we moved our set over the fireplace, we could really expand the sitting area (didn’t want anything in front of the TV).

I stumbled on a product called MantleMount [.com], it's a levering/retractable mount system, that also swivels (and it tilts automatically to a perfect viewing angle). This product is put together really nice: great build quality, clean welds, finish looks great (looks PC'ed), also packaged really well. I did take some outstanding advice from the couple of posters on the AVS forum and picked up some ultra high grade SS 1/4x3" lags from The Depot, some additional washers too. The cover you can see can be painted to match the wall, so ultimately it will just about disappear

Being in beautiful Vilano Beach, we generally don't fire up the fireplace, but this still gives us the +option+ to use it (and we’d probably be listening to music and not focused on TV use, so retracting the TV to the up position works great). This position is also outstanding for viewing from the kitchen (the old location against the left [from the picture perspective]) was like a 30-35º angle, how it’s direct.

There’s no issue from other users regarding heat if the fireplace is in use, in fact, there’s heat indicators in the mount, and you can always push it up to be flush against the wall, and “behind” the mantle for little-to-no heat. Our 60lb set feels like it takes about 5-8 lbs of effort to move, pretty slick engineering.

Equipment:
Panasonic 54” Plasma (G25)
Pioneer VSX-1021-K
H22 DVR
PS3
AppleTV 3rd Gen
GB 8-port Switch, everything is hardwired via GB ethernet, full remote access from iPhone/iPad to AppleTV, AVR
3500W UPS/Filter
Phase Tech PC60 Mk IIs, matching PC50 sub behind the rack, all new drivers

Also switched to new custom cabling with banana plugs (run over/around the mantle, HD cable covers), new Redmere HDMI slim cables (vs. the old Monoprice hoses...), migrated the Xbox 360 to the playroom for non-stop Disney Infinity :D New rear channels going in soon, probably some Polk TL3/TL2.

I used to have a rather large home theater system a year or so ago but finally sold most of it off after my receiver died. It was too big for this apartment and too many wires (if you can imagine vs. what is there now).

I is a vizio soundbar with a wireless sub and does quite nice in my apartment. Has two HDMI inputs with one out, 1 coax, 1 toslink, and 3.5mm input.
