Video DVDs really are data DVDs, it's not the same sort of major difference you see between audio and data CDs.

If you put in a video DVD, can you access it in the Finder? Are the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders and their contents accessible?

What exactly doesn't work, Apple's DVD player? Does VLC work?

have you tried using another person's user account to play DVDs?

have you run any diagnostic programs?

I have an issue sometimes with some DVDs in which my powermac wont realize it is a video DVD in the drive and will just mount it and not autoplay it, so i have to click on DVD Player.

    Dvd issue. . .

what happens when i put the disk in is that it won't read the video dvd, and it gives me the options to eject or ignore. if i go to dvd player to read it, it does nothing. it never mounts or anything.
