Funny...I calculate about $27 per year increase in electric cost.

    .38kW * 2 hours * 365 days = 277.4 kWh per year.

Average cost of electricity in US = $0.098/kWh.

Yeah, I doubt most PS3 owners will spend more than two hours EVERY DAY using it. And why the hell would you use it to surf the web?

More like 350 or so, the psu's are built to accommodate peak power requirements if you maxed the thing out, most g5's has 650w psu's apart from the singles with 450's.

Not everybody gets cheap hydro power from the Pacific Northwest. Here in Norther California, PG&E's residential baseline rate is $0.114/kWh, going quickly up to $0.37/kWh based on usage. If I'd turn on a PS3 in my house, the electricity it uses will be in the $0.32227/kWh bracket. Using the above numbers, that comes out to about $90/year.

Well, presumably it doesn't use max power when watching DVDs, as the article assumed.

Love my iMac and Powerbook. Low wattage all round :)
When I found out about how much watts my iMac used I decided to go semi-Eco crazy. replaced all my lights with halogens and power savers, turn them all off when not in use. turn everything off now when not in use!

Good thing I'm never going to get a PS3 :)

    This is why I choose a 12 inch 45 watt PowerBook G4. It's also why I choose XBOX 360.

    I don't hate the PS3. And I don't hate Sony.

I just think it's funny to hear how badly they've messed things up. Little bit of schadenfreude to lighten up the day... :p

Did the PS or PS2 have nearly as much problems as are being reported for the PS3?
