Hi, I was just wondering why there is a red light behind the power button when I press the power button to turn it on and why there is a continuous red light that I can see through the audio out at the back of the machine. It is a dual 2 Ghz Late 2005 Power Mac G5.

I think this is normal but I am asking to confirm that it is (or isn't)

Thanks!

If the red light is coming from the audio out, then it is the optical audio. The headphone ports in all modern macs double as optical audio for toslink to a receiver. I have heard of this happening before but I am not sure what causes them to stay on. Check your audio settings and make sure it is not set to 7.1.

Also there maybe some schmutz stuck in there as this site indicates:
