A couple times at my home, the power went out in the house and caused my iMac to switch off. Have these power outs hurt anything software or hardware wise inside my iMac G5?

I'm no expert, but there's 7 macs at my household and none of them have ever been damaged by a power outage, and we get a fair few here. I would think the Macs would have some sort of protection for this.

I've had problems, and read threads where people have had problems, either from surges as the power returns, or as a fault protection and one has to reset the CUDA.

Ultimately, if this happens a lot, you should invest in an UPS (uninteruptable power supply) to protect your data & hardware.

I would suggest getting a surge protector or something of that kind. I've heard of computers and appliances getting blown out from them, and ultimately being unusable.

Back up your data regularly too.
