I thought that the price might drop on a regular dual 2ghz after today's announcement.

has it gone below $1900 anywhere? even the refurbs are the same price. do I need to wait a bit longer?

    id wait till feburary.

that way the xmas roush will be over and the price may slide slightly, and windows will have the new os out so steve jobs will be making competition from that.

i expect power books to slide about 4% the students discount rate on computers is around 7-8.5%. so a simple 4% is nothing for mr jobs, but will be enough to keep them from slipping sales wise

Well I just ordered a dual 2ghz for under £1000 on apples refurb site, thats over £400 cheaper than the dualcore 2ghz model released today, quite a bargain me thinks, I'm glad I waited around abit!

thats the best way. im gonna save up and get a 17inch off the refurb site, theres all this rubish about the better screens, id just use the dvi out to my hd ready lcd tv along with my mini mac. and have a switching unit, between the two macsm then just disconnect the pb and carry it any where i wished when i wanted to, my house is kitted with loads of airport expresses so im never far away from a strong wifi connection.

i like the new 15inch its a better size and has the 128 g-card and 1.67 processor so i might get that, im just very undecided. if i had money to hand, id just buy the new 15inch, but im skint at the moment, which is giving me a good time to think, but if i get a new one i can easily wait well untill after xmas and my money floats will be back on track.

but my next investment is either office for mac or apple works, (office for mac because we have dells at work, apple works because apple stuff does exactly what it says on the tin, it works)

any thoughts on my power book dialema? ne 1

FYI... for anyone in the UK looking for a previous model iMac

I called up the Apple Store earlier (the main UK & Ireland one). They have no previous (rev B) discounted iMacs for sale. They said all iMacs coming from them are built-to-order and therefore they have none lying around and are only selling the brand new one now, so they suggested I called a retail store.

I rang Regent Street and they are completely out of stock of the previous model, so sadly no discounts there either. They still have the old one on display and are expecting to receive the new models in about 2-3 weeks time, so i guess they might sell off the ex-display ones at some point, or any other refurbs they might have.

Anyway... I managed to buy a 17" 2.0GHz Superdrive model from the UK Refurb store last night. I just thought i'd ring around this morning to see if i could still get a "new" rather than refurb unit.

The Refurb store was out of stock of both the 17" base model and the 20" model yesterday evening. The 17" SD i bought was originally £999 and down to £719 refurb price (i.e. 28% discount).

If you have an Egg Money card you also should get an extra 10% cashback on Apple purchases (as well as the 1% cashback you get on all purchases anyway).... sweet :D

    - hope this helps -

congratulations, excelent purchase and an excelent price too.

i wonder if any student have ever though about going into buisness and buying then reselling macs? they could add 2% and still be 6% less than the general apple store
