    Hi,
I have some problems printing properly.

I am using an iBook 600MHz OSX 10.2.6 trying to print over a network to an HP Color Laserjet 4550N.

The problem is that when I print the majority of times white appears as yellow... very strange.

pdf documents print out with a completly yellow babckground.
I've tried everything I know but cannot stop it. Can anyone help.

    Andy

I'd check to make sure there was enough toner in the printer.

It reads like the problem is with the cartridge.
Check the cartridge to see if it has ink in it.
Check the print head. (It can be gently cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip.- Messy and something to do in desperation.)
If a refill kit was used, you might have a problem with a clogged print head, or perhaps the wrong ink was used for that tank.

Replace the cartridge and see if it help.

Other things to check, send a b/w test print page. If the printer has a black tank it should print OK. If there is some sort of color correction software running on the host computer, that could be the problem. Try reloading the drivers and use the default print settings if all else fails.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but he is printing to a laserjet, not an inkjet printer. ;)

Could it be that the PPD used is not specific to the printer, and is just a generic one? Did you adjust to Page setup for the printer and do you have the appropriate PostScript level set (1,2 or 3)?

If that were the problem there wouldn't be extra yellow printing.

It's most likely a software issue. Install fresh drivers and do the things zarathustra has recommended. Your printer is fine.
