    Hi all,

I'm fairly new to macs - just bought my first this summer - and I'm having a problem.

I have a Rev-B 20" iMac, and lately it's been turning off on its own. Most of the times it is after the screen saver has been on for a while, but earlier today is was while it was rebooting. Once it does get started again everything is fine.

    Any ideas??

Not to state the obvious, but you've checked that all connections to the computer are secure, correct?

The rebooting thing is odd. If it's completely shutting off during boot-up, it's probably time to call Apple. As for the part about it going off during screen save mode, are you sure it's not just going into "Sleep" mode? Go into System Preferences, Energy Saver, and slide the top bar that says "Put the computer to sleep..." all the way over to "Never." See if that helps!

yeah, connections are fine and it has been set to never go to sleep for awhile now, but the problem has only been in the past few days.

If you let it sit for a while, can you boot it back up and have it run a while without shutting off? The reason why I ask is, I'm wondering if its overheating for some reason. If its overheating, it will shut down, and then also shut down immediately after you boot it back up because the iMac is still hot.

    Just throwing something out there.

Either way, it sounds like its time to take it to Apple unfortunately.

sounds like it could be the overheating problem...or a problem with the psu maybe?
