In britain the top 60gig PS3 will cost 425£ but what i cant understand is why america gets the ps3 for soooo much less. At todays exchange rates the ps3 should be around $830 (thanks dashboard converter!) and that is clearly not the case because america gets it for $600. That should mean we would get a ps3 for around €450 not 600!! and the uk for a shade over £300 not 425!! Around april of 06 the americans were worried because they thought a 600euro ps3 would mean an $800 ps3 for them but sony turned the tables on us!!! Not for the first time either. While europe bought ps2 games for 60euro or 40pounds america got the games for $40 or $50 at worst. Thats over 50% more for we europeans! So for those americans who complain about $60 games, that should by exchange rates cost less for europeans than ps2 games do now (only €45!!) i will point out that we will probably have to pay €75 or £50 for games as we have to do with the 360. Can ye americans imagine paying 100dollars for 1 game!!
Why does sony rip off the 3rd biggest market. The have made us wait for 4 months, the have ripped us off in the past and they are about to rip us off now. I hear ps3 games are region free, so ill make sure to stock up on cheap games in america.

lad I know your a Corkman and ye all talk faster than a knacker bein chased by the gard's, but you dont have to write it like that too :p

Take it from a Kerryman, Ireland is always a con.

Our pricing is always based on UK rates, which are always in turn inflated over European pricing, which is in turn over inflated compared to USA pricing.

At least we can order from ebay or canada and save €25 per game.

In fairness it's not just Sony, Microsoft 360 games are €65-70 too. Even Wii games are a con at €60-65.

I'm afraid we have to grin and bare it, otherwise do like I do...

order my PS3 games from USA/Canada - they work out at €50
order my Xbox 360 games from Play-Asia - they work out at €35-40
get my wii games from Smyths with their 10% loyalty card and they are about €50 (10-15 more than 360  )

I agree with the ******** pricing overseas. Luckily in Canada our price is almost the same as US +-10$. Good luck importing, you might recall what sony did to Lik-Sang in 2006. Hopefully it won't happen to Play-Asia or any other service that people use for it. After that stunt Sony is on my hate list, lik-sang was nice :(

It's not so bad here. For instance you can buy Wii Play in some shops for the same price as a Wii controller. The consoles are slightly overpriced but at least Wii games cost the same as last gen. No way in hell would I pay street prices for 360 games. Never have (even in the cart days) never will.

Just think VAT, EU import tax and the fact that your Dashboard widget is converting at a market value.

also keep in mind that we add on 15% in canada..

Also, keep in mind just how much the pound buys everywhere else..

If the Spanish were complaining about the high cost - it'd be more reasonable...

Instead of a 450£ PS3, buy a 5£ flight to eastern europe, and spend the other 445£ living it up.

My family own property in Poland and for the most part that part of the world pay even more for electronics. game piracy is ripe there, systems are out of the price range of most folk. Even down in Spain I never buy games, the local gameshop was selling Bomberman DS for 40 quid (in Euros, obviously). Airports weren't much cheaper.

Japan and US seem to be cheapest :(

Not to pretend to fully understand the economy over there,
but I would venture to guess the higher price probably has something
to do with that wonderful VAT governments over there seem to love. :)

Not to mention the socialism. I love how Microsoft ripped off Europe for Vista so they could recoup that stupid EU fine. I always tell people to sell short the Euro on the FOREX because someday it'll all come crashing down when the world realizes that all that's behind the Euro is a few rich countries (deflated) and many, many poor ones (infalted). Thank goodness the UK stuck to the pound, and Italy came to their senses and went back to the Lira.

All my econ-ranting aside, I think perhaps the main reason there are expensive prices there is due to the following:

    1) No real competition in EU. Perhaps they need to make their own game machine or have more game developers. (If a EU studio does make a game, they price it like the rest out there.)

    2) Languages! Europe is home to many languages. That's a lot of localization work companies have to do to bring things over!

    3) High taxes! Ack. (VAT was mentioned)

    4) Ireland. Nobody likes the Irish! (just kidding, MRU :D )

I've said it in other threads...I'll say it here again. Come to Thailand and buy. Your pound is so unfair over here. 70 to the THB!!! I think you can get them down to 25K on a PS3 now which is around 350 or so of your quid or pounds or whatever you say ;)

I feel more sorry for the Aussies. They get gauged and they're dollar is weak. You pay more, but in the end you're making more (in theory)...

Pah, the price-hike is small compared to other products.

According to theregister.co.uk, Vista Ultimate on Amazon is 380 dollars in the US, but 780 in Europe!

    Rootkits?

And hmmm... more expensive Vista = less people upgrading and more switchers to Mac. Doesn't that make it a good thing :D

    1) Not a stupid fine, at least the E.U. are standing up to Microsoft.

    2) 4 of the top 10 richest countries back the € and it has a bigger circulation the the US $. There are some poor ones at the moment but these economies are rapidly progressing. Just look at Ireland before the E.U.!

    3) Italy have only discussed having a referendum going back to the €.

The rest is all true though, especially the bit about no one liking the Irish! :p

That was because of the English! We'd have been fine if left to our own devices!
