Although this looks good and lots of people will no doubt be downloading it a playing around. Several points bother me.

Since this is a preview version of QuickTime 6, Apple recommends that it only be run for testing purposes on a non-essential system. QuickTime 6 Public Preview is not supported by AppleCare. Running QuickTime 6 Public Preview with other Apple products, such as FinalCut Pro or iMovie, is also not supported.

I use FCP which means I won't be able to use QT6 until it is fully supported, damn....

This software will expire in October, 2002.

Is this how long we're going to have to wait for the official release!?!?

Because QuickTime 6 will include royalty-bearing technologies, a new QuickTime Pro key will be required to unlock pro functionality in the final release.

Which translates as it will cost money to upgrade.....

which means I won't be touching it either until it's release in October (?) or when AmbitiousLemon is pushing it for everyone to test out... ;)

it does suck about the hardware key part...it seems most significant software upgrade rumors lately have involved having to payup for the update...is this going to become a common practice of Apple?

Well, the good thing is that it will probably accompany an update for iMovie, iTunes, FCP, iDVD, DVDPro. Now weather they make you pay for the updates on all the Pro versions, remains to be seen, but I'd say yes to that. It might be a simple fix for FCP and DVDPro, just adding a different codec, since you can export to QT and the options are handled there.

I just don't want to wait till friggin October:mad:

There was a link on the QT6 page for the QT5 download, basically right where they were talking about 6 being for testing purposes.....

Yes, but that is for OS 9 and winblows, it just says that QT5 is pre-installed with OS X and there is no option to DL it.

    Link is broken...

On the bottom right column for the QT6 preview is the following quote:

"If at any time you want to go back to QuickTime 5, QuickTime 5 for Mac OS 9 (or earlier) and Windows users is available. Mac OS X users need to download and install the Mac OS X QuickTime 5 Reinstaller."

Of course, the only problem is that when you click on the reinstaller link, the Knowledge Base Article isn't found.

I'm sure it will be posted soon. Hang tight.

You know, I have noticed a lot of people on the board (I'll admit, sometimes myself) that are just becoming lazy and seem to be getting cheap posts on where something is, or what something means, or some cockash!t. Now I am not going to fire off here, but at least have the decentcy, rather, the decency, to use the spell check instead of asking on a correct spelling, explore the !!!!!! link if you are looking for something, or browse the news report instead of waiting for a discussion to turn up and you want to respond, but you have no idea what is going on. Now I know that this is the wrong place for this type of discussion, so I will continue with Quicktime.

Luckily, I have the beta version of QT6 that I got off of !!!!!!!! and since iMovie is working as perfect as anything, I will stick with the beta until whenever QT6 is finished. I wonder if Apple is going to make three previews, just as they did with Quicktime 5.
