Sorry if this is a basic easy answer but is there anyway I can buy music through the new AppleTV? This is my first experience with it and I can't find anything in the menus.

    Thanks

i'm pretty sure there are no purchases on the appletv2. if you want to purchase music, you can always go to your computer and purchase on itunes and then it's available through home sharing on the apple tv.

This is correct. The new Apple TV cannot purchase anything directly, only rent-and-stream movies/TV. If you want to purchase music movies or TV shows you have to do it in iTunes on your Mac/PC.

Since it must stay connected to our Macs in order to stream, why can't we click "buy" on the Apple TV and it starts downloading in iTunes on my Mac. This makes SO much sense to me.

Because your Mac doesn't need to be on to use AppleTV. You have the option of using the ATV by itself.

    Solution!

Use LogMeIn Igniton on your iPad to log into your computer and purchase via iTunes. Ha!

Why can't we also have the option of purchasing if our mac is on... Or even a wake on demand type thing.

i'm sure that sort of functionality will come - it's just not here in the initial release
To do it, I guess they'd need to flag an episode/movie/album as purchased, and then you'd need your iTunes to constantly scan your iTunes account to see if anything new had been added recently.
eventually they'll have some kind of a notification thing happening like they do with apps on the iPhone, where the iTunes Store will poke your iTunes on your desktop and tell it there are downloads pending.

I figure it'd be able to just jet a command over to the iMac and start the download that way. (Rather than iTunes continuously scanning)
