With my iMac, when I right click an image or basically any file and scroll down the drop down menu to the "open with" line... how do I purge the applications listed there... it's gotten to be a rather intimidating list and I would like to start over.

is it possible to edit the "LaunchServices database" to allow me to selectively remove apps?? or is that where you would even do it...

It is possible but it's ridiculously difficult. If the apps are all Photoshop-related then a good trick to get rid of them is to select them all, create an archive of them and then delete the originals. This way you still have the apps but they won't be recognised in the Open With menu. :)
