What browser are you talking about? And are you talking about the Google site or the Google search field in the toolbar?

For Safari: If it's the Google site, go to Autofill in your preferences and disable it or modify the preferences. If it's the search field in the toolbar, click on the little down arrow and select "Clear Recent Searches."

Other browsers generally have similar functionalities.

If you're in Firefox, you can 'clear private data' (only clear saved field entries). I'm not sure about Safari though...
