One of the things that Jaguar seems to be designed to do is improve Quartz GL response(?) therefore better graphics and speed...Is that right? What exactly is Quartz GL (excuse my ignorance!!) and what will be the impact be on iMac DV400 G3/320megs memory?
I like what I've seen of Jaguar and hope my current computer isn't getting too long in the tooth to get at least some of the benefits of 10.2 as I'be been running OSX since v10.0 and truly dig it. However a G4 is still probably 18 months away for me.....
    Good forum btw:D

Quartz GL does not exist in ANY version of MacOS X except the upcoming jaguar. By the way, its not called Quartz GL its called Quartz Extreme. Quartz Extreme makes the normal Quartz processes run through your graphics card taking a load off you CPU thus improving performance. Even if your graphics card CAN'T run Quartz Extreme and is forced to run the plain Quartz you will still notice a HUGE increase in performance! :)

...is the Arstechnica name for it. Please use it to help spread the name. We at the Macintoshian Achia decided that Quartz Extreme was a horrible name.

Anyway, QuartzGL makes all the transparencies and other compositing tasks run faster by using the graphics card instead of the processor, leaving the processor free to do other things. Since OSX has a lot of transparency, it should provide a good speedup. Many many other things will be sped up too, so people with computers like mine (beige G3) will be happy too :).
