    I have a question.

Does the copy of XP SP2 have to be bonafide if you catch my drift? How does the licence code work? Does it connect to the internet to check your code or anything?

If it DOES have to be bonafide, whats the cheapest option of getting XP Sp2? £169 is a LOT of money to spend just on XP.

    Thanks

Subtle as a brick through a window. ;) As far as getting a cheap legal copy, they seem pretty readily available on eBay...just avoid scammy auctions, and enjoy your currency's buying power. :)

Yes, it does. Windows will only work for 30 days without proper authentication, and Windows update sometimes will refuse access, even in those 30 days.

The cheapest option is to find an OEM copy of Windows MCE. It's cheaper than Pro, and it has the media center interface.

Some versions (if you catch my drift) do not connect to the internet.

i had a version of sp2 that did not check after installing. and updates worked ok!

I picked up an OEM version of XP Home for £50 new.

Also, IIRC, you need either Home SP2 or Pro SP2. Upgrade and MCE editions "dont work" - or at least according to Apple they dont.

MCE installed fine for me, I did have to install using an external dvd drive though (so I could eject the dvd manually).
