Question Regarding Standard Mail Application

Hey guys, just got my new iBook G4 a couple of days ago. I already setup the e-mail client to receive my mail via POP. My question is: Is there anyway to have the mail icon pop up from the dock (like it does with AOL instant messenger when I receive an IM) when I receive a new e-mail? Either that or maybe pop-up a window or something?

Not built in.

You can use something like Mail Appetizer though.

Just leave Mail open in the background.

But if you get a new email, a red star with the number "1" written inside of it will appear on your dock on top of the Mail.app icon.

A jumping icon would be annoying.
