Is there any way to get the movie controls to pop up when VLC is at fullscreen?

when i use QT, and hit apple+F, it makes the movie fullscreen, and will bring up the ff, rew, pause, etc bar.

however in VLC, only time i can use those controls is by getting out of fullscreen.

is there any way to change this? maybe in the preferences?

Last I checked all you needed to do was move the mouse a bit and the menu comes up on it's own. Works like that for me. :D
