I am sure this thread has already been visited before, but here it goes. Is it possible to take a video and adjust the aspect ratio (take a 4:3 format video and adjust it to 16:9) in QuickTime Player?

I know you can do this in VLC player, but I have been unable to find the feature in QuickTime. For instance, you download a video on the internet to your hard drive, and it appears smushed from the sides when you try to play it in QuickTime player. The aspect ratio settings are wrong. You are trying to play an HD (16:9) ratio video in a 4:3 window. Like I said, VLC has this setting built-in to the program, you can adjust the aspect ratio easily. Just wondering if the same thing is possible in QuickTime. Much help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

If you have quicktime pro (not sure about the player), you can go into the 'window' menu -> 'show movie properties', then under the video settings section, de-click 'maintain aspect ratio' & then change the pixel dimensions to suit your required aspect ratio (ie. HDV 1440x1080 would be changed to 1920x1080 & SD PAL from 720x576 to 1024x576)

Long winded, but it works & the settings can be saved in the file so you only need to do it once per movie (& dont forget to tick the 'high quality' box too!)

I think I got it, Thanks. I have the pro version of QuickTime. It will let you select the "Video Track" under "Movie Properties" and you can select the pixel resolution dimensions of your video. For 16:9, I calculated that 1024x576 would work OK. It will not let you select an aspect ratio however, you must manually adjust the pixel resolution setting there.

    Hold Shift

Alternatively, Hold shift while you resize the movie window. This will adjust the aspect ratio
