According to Apple, one will be able to order the key to QuickTime Pro 7 on April 29.

It seems it will be. I was reading the Final Cut Pro page and it requires QT 7, but the OS requirements listed were both 10.3.9 and 10.4 or later.

or for windows...the QT versions on both platforms have mirrored each other for a while

seems unlikely they would keep 7 just for tiger when they have the large windows ipod user base who rely on windows QT for encoding/decoding

Was the latest version of Quicktime released on the same day as Panther last year does anyone know? I'm itching to get my hands on the new codec to see how much better it is but I won't have Tiger for a while yet. I don't see any reason why they should hold out on releasing it if it's ready.

Check the Apple Store - Quicktime 7 Pro's out now under the new section. It says that Quicktime 7 for Panther and Tiger is out the 29, and redirects Windows to the Quicktime 6 Pro page, as 7 is unavailable for them at the moment.
