    Hi everyone.

Firstly I love my Macbook. No major issues of any sort really. But I do have one little quibble. There appears to be a high pitched drone/hissing sound that only becomes noticable when the room is silent. The sound comes from the corner of the unit close to the power connector. It is a constant hiss, and only breaks intermittently when the hard drive is accessed. This leads me to believe that it is the hard drive making the noise, though I'm not sure. I just wanted a second opinion.

If it is the hard drive, do you reckon I should try pulling out the hard drive and putting it back in? I'm thinking of getting a new hard drive soon anyway (I only got the stock 60GB). Do you reckon that'll stop the sound? Or is it more likely some sort of connector which is actually part of the Macbook?

I don't have a Macbook, and haven't been following the issue, but I know this is a fairly common problem among Macbook owners. Search the forum for "Macbook Whine" I do not thing it's related to the hard drive.

I believe Apple will replace the machine for you (or at least repair it) if it has the whine.

Despite the fact that I think Apple's QC especially regarding notebooks have gone down the crapper, this is one of the issues with the Macbooks which I don't think is a reliability or build quality problem.

Thing is, ALL laptops I've come across so far have this noise. It's just that the rest of the Macbook / MBP is so quiet that this 'fizz' (it is a fizz more than a whine, right?) is brought to the forefront.
