So i sat up holding my ibook G3 and it slid out of my hands right into the back of a chair cracking the screen. I feel awful.

This little computer that could has been used everyday for the last 4 1/2 years. Its quite a loss. Luckily the computer is fine itself and I was able to restart in firewire mode and save all my data. Unfortunately I was planning on using this as my personal computer for years to come... I'm kinda SOL as far as a laptop goes now.

    any wise words of wisdom?

If you want, you can always replace the screen.
Not to push anything on you at your time of loss, but I have a screen from a 12" iBook G3. take the whole thing apart, pop in a new one, and bingo! You can use her again. :)

But maybe this is Isaac Newton's way of telling you that it's time for an upgrade? :)

i'm trying to find out if a screen replacement is even an option, the plastic part on the bottom of the screen is pretty badly bent...

its a possibility, but as was mentioned, i do need a new laptop, just don't have the $.

Get the VGA adapter and take the screen all the way off for heat issues and use a inexpensive monitor and make it a desktop

Good idea, but that won't solve howard's need for a portable computer. :)

Aww...that is a terrible story. I'm so sorry.

I agree with others here that recommend you replace the screen. I think that's your best bet. It shouldn't be too expensive to do that. Good luck!

I got an iBook G3 600MHz, 384MB SDRAM, 40GB hard drive, 10.3 Panther for 256.00 USD shipped on eBay. The former owner was a businessman who used the computer word processing, email, and Web browsing - perfect! :D

So, you could always get a "new" one.
