Probably about Jan-Mar 2003.:( On the other hand the 9000 will be most likely available fall-early winter...:)

I heard that the 9000 will be out for the mac sooner then that, probably by September, and the 9700 will be out late 2002. I hope this is true, because these are going to be sweet cards. I can't wait!

Yeah, I'm going to pre-order the 9700 as soon as I can...The 9000 is kinda going to be like the geforce4 mx don't you think?
    It's all good though...

It's still going to be a sweet card. Sure it'll be less powerful then the 9700, but it'll also cost way less then the 4 MX, even though it specs out about the same.

I understood from ATI that both cards would be available for Macintosh before the end of 2002. :)

Of course, nVidia has a better chipset coming, providing their company's value doesn't fall any further and they'll still be around to produce it.

Don't think that way--I have the 64MB twinview version...until GeForce 4Ti or Radeon 9700, at least.

    I hear that. :D

I've got $1000 in the bank; I should probably have enough by October.

I made a deal with my dad that if I invest x amount of dollars in stocks or an IRA, then he will buy the equal dollar amount of Apple hardware for me. :D

    question for you games/graphics folks...

how does the 9000 compare to the 8500?

which would be a better buy right now?

i currently have a gf2mx and a rage (for second monitor)... i'm not in a rush. but by the time the 9700 comes out i'd probably have already bought something

and the gf4ti is just too much cash i think....

is it like the gf4mx vs gf3 thing... ie, the gf3 is in many ways better than the 4mx... is the 8500 better than the 9000 like that?

    sorry for the babble..

You're updating your system hitman? Sweet!

I just got a 933 quicksilver back in May, so I won't be updating for a while. I will, however be updating my graphics card when either when the 9000 or the 9700 comes out. I can't wait! My peice of junk 4MX doesn't have any of the extras (FSAA, Shading, etc.). These new cards are going to be the sh*t!

THe radeon 9000 isn't even close to the Ti4200 in speed. It's about 33% slower than the 8500, which is 10% slower than the 4200. You do the math.

The 9000 is actually the baseline of the new generation Radeons, much like the previous line was :

    Baseline : 7000
    Mid-range : 7500
    Top-end : 8500..

    The new line is :

    Baseline : 9000
    Top-end : 9700

From what I've heard the 9000 and the 8500 are comparable in performance, but I'd check it out with a reliable source before buying.

Yeah, I've been saving for a couple of months for a new tower. I've been stuck with a 4 year old iMac, well, for the past 4 years.. :D

I'm probably going to BTO the baseline dual 867 with an 80GB HD and a Radeon 9000. I think that should be suffecient power of several more years. :)

The total comes to about $1,800. I'll probably have enough for the purchase by November.

Depending on what your budget is, I'd go for the 9700, just because the 9000 is slightly slower than the 8500...

the thing really holding me back is i'll probably want it (a new card) before the 9700 comes out (whenever that will be.).. so it's kinda like.... 8500, 9000, or gf4ti?

    hmm

guess i'll wait to see comparisons... blah

get the 8500 if you can't afford the 9700 or the GF4 Ti. Since everybody's been IGNORING me about my claims that the 8500 is faster than the 9000, here's proof. http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MzI4LDI=

If anyone says that the 8500 is slower than or the same speed as the 9000 after reading those articles...
