hi all...i finally ordered a refurbished dp 1.25 g4 from apple!!! YEAH!!! this model is the older (firewire 400) model and comes with the standard 256mb ram. i would like to get another 512mb ram and have a few questions. does anyone know what type of ram comes standards with apple computers? does it matter if you mix ram?
i saw that on crucial they have "512MB DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Non-parity • " for $86 including shipping. Is this a good deal, or are there better deals out there?
    Thanks,
    Dan

I have basically the same computer as you, and I bought that exact Crucial upgrade. Its worked out great. I have crucial in all my other macs as well, and I can highly recommend them.

MoparShaha, thanks for the input! I'll probably go with the crucial...however, would still like to hear from anyone else!

    I have a DP1.25 FW800 and it uses the same RAM, PC2700 or DDR333.
The crucial upgrade you indicate is correct. I have two of those chips and two 256MB (Apple, and not sure) chips.

I'm on the path to go for 2GB of RAM, if you are interested, I will sell the two 256MB modules for $65 shipped. You'll still have one more slot to upgrade later.

In any case, you are on the right track.

*There are better deals than Crucial, but they have quality products, good service, and a good reputation for not a whole lot more.

    hi,
I also have a D1.25 FW800. I have always ordered ram from Googlgear, a place I really love. More competitive than Crucial (whose reputation here is way overdone IMHO) and same quality (and that applies to all of their hardware). I highly recommend.

    good luck

    Thanks...

    Thanks for all your advise...

I decided to go with crucial. The ram I specified earlier was $86, no tax, free shipping, and I also got 5% off so the total was $81 and change - shipped...

I thought it was a good deal and went for it.

Now, hopefully my DP 1.25 and my ram with both get here by tomorrow and I can start the show!!!
