i want to buy more ram for my iMac g5. it only has 512 and i was looking to upgrade to maybe 2gb? or one and half. im going to be running programs like light room. and final cut express/ pro. along with adobe suit.

im not sure how many slots my imac has.. i think its only 2, is there any way i could have more then just 2gb of ram? im willing to spend a resonable amount of money.nothing more then 250, becasue im also thinking about buying an external harddrive for all my film.

The iSight model can hold 2 GB + the onboard 512 MB. You're going to get killed by the price of a 2 GB DDR2 SODIMM though.

    Eidorian has it right

You need to specify which iMac G5 it is you own

The first iMac models have 2 sockets for PC3200 DDR DIMMs, and can go to a max of 2 Gb

The iSight model has 512 MB soldered on and one socket only. This socket can take a 1 Gb or a 2 Gb DDR2-533 DIMM like the dualcore G5 towers.

If the iSight model, your video and graphics programs will benefit from the extra Gb between 1.5 and 2.5; but you will have to reconcile yourself to the cost.

    Thanks

That's crazy that a G5 imac can't support more ram than a g4 emac (apart from the extra 512)

Assuming you have the iSight model...

If you are in the USA $249 or $289 at Data Memory Systems
Other MR readers like OWC (MacSales) and Crucial

There are undoubtedly cheaper places to get it, but none I know of that test on Macs, give a compatibility guarantee, have a no cost return if it doesn't work, and excellent service.

(PS: there have been many, many threads recommending where to buy Mac memory, a forum Search is a wonderful tool.)
