The server's ram will be upgraded shortly.
Sorry for the delays.
yea! more ram!
It's the universal fix for everything...
I think we're going to need some more RAM, considering these boards will most likely clog up with viewers on the main page and the forums to find out what the latest is on the iMac, iLife/Mac OS X 10.2.4, etc. And I have a feeling it's going to be crowded for a while.
If you can read this message, there's a break in the action.
Let's all use smaller point sizes to save RAM until the server is upgraded.
Of course, limiting the number of frivolous jokes would help too. Hmmm... (insert sound of introspection here)
I know a few sites that use vBulletin. Does it include any analysis tools to show when capacities are being reached or how the server load varies by time of day or day of the week?
i suppose its not any of my business but i always wondered why members don't get deleted after so much time being idle...i doubt it would fix that much...but the members list is so clogged...and what about old threads? do they ever get deleted? theres probably reasons i'm not aware of why that would be either good or bad...
There have been users not post for months, then, without warning, come back and start posting for a while. An example is john123.
There are many reasons for why people may not come back, but, plain and simple, it would not be fair to that user.
Example: You hear about this great site called NewPlace.com and check out the site often. When you decide to register, though, you do not post at all. You were planning to start posting soon, but something happened. So you cannot post for a while.
This "something" could be moving from one place to another, a budget extreme, or a family crisis. On a less likely scale, a person may have to be assigned a duty as a member of the Army, Navy, Marines, or the like, and cannot come back home for a while.
All of this could happen while the person would like to post at NewPlace.com and just can't. If he was removed from the site because he hasn't posted, it wouldn't be fair. Also, it's almost impossible to determine who is in this senario, because you would have to get in contact with not just one person, but ALL the 0 posters on the board to ask if they would allow having their name removed.
I just think arn needs 42 xServes...
Oh and about 100 Terabytes of Bandwith ( I know nothing about bandwith)
Edit: When is this memory gonna be put in, for like 3 minutes I couldn't post
I'm going to have to be blunt here, macman. Mentioning this around the general public can make you appear as a rude person. I've experienced more than once, and on worse times than this. Sure, we get angry, but be grateful this server will be upgraded.
Re: Re: Server Slowdowns ("too busy")
RAM has been upgraded. We are at 2gigs of RAM now.
Let me know if you notice any notable slowdowns/server busy messages.
2 Gigs? Nice!
What was it at before?
1gig -> 2gigs of ram
I was... I just didn't post about how great this place is.
I don't see a fourm that says 'Arn's Eternal Shine' Topic: 'Praise me here'
Or else I would, but there isn't.
i really hate complaining, but arn, you said to tell you if there were any more "busy" times. until i read that you had fixed it, i thought we were still waiting for a fix, because it's been a big problem for me in the last few days (and weeks). three times today i couldn't read a thread or post, for 2-5 minutes at a time...
I got online this morning at 7:30 or so EST and the server was too busy for about 5 minutes.
Did you change the update time from 4 AM?
Just got server too busy messages at 1AM EST.
yeah, it's happening less, but it's still happening...
I just got that message once, it went away when i hit reload.
What type of server does this use? Also, how much bandwidth a month do you use on average?
Linux, Dual P3 1.4GHz, close to 300 gigs a month.
wow... 300 gigs without even hosting downloads...
