The good side of the grass.
What cube wrote. I always labor over DP Reviews before buying a camera. All the ones listed so far in this thread have some distinctive pro's and con's.
DP Review gives very thorough reviews and compares cameras one to one with similar specs.

Just bought the new Canon SD 790is for the latest interface and controls w. 3" lcd but gave up a viewfinder which I never use in a sub-compact p&s anyway.

You also need to check if movie mode allows active zooming - some don't.

Of those 2, get the Canon. No question about it. Sony just hasn't done well with their recent stills -- DV is a different story. Every Canon I've used -- A series, SD, S series, SLR has been great. Panasonic is another to look at -- great lens!
