hiya ..

what is best way to record from a svideo source to mac? [ie i wanna transfer tv content from a freeview receiver with a harddrive and archive it on my mac] merci beaucoup

You have have something ( a converter box or a camcorder) that will convert the the S-video signal to Firewire. Im sure there are converter boxes you could buy for this (google "s-video firewire converter") , but if you have a camcorder that will allow you to pass the signal through you can use it as the converter. I do this with my Sony camcorder. It has s-video input as well as RCA jacks that allow me to connect to my computer. If your camcorder only has RCA inputs, then use an s-video to rca cable to take the signal from the DVR to the camcorder, then Firewire from Camcorder to Computer.

cool thanks.. hav no dcamera, converters seem expensiv.. £150 ! ebay or mite b cheaper to buy a dvdr recorder..
