When you buy a refurbished computer, is it like a used and fixed computer with the usual wear and tear light scratches, or is it used, fixed, and re-touched to make it look like it's not refurbished?

Im buying one in like a couple weeks.

    Thanks.

Oh, anybody get extra stuff installed in their refurb? My friend's refurb black came with a extra gig of RAM, and his powerbook came with 768 mb

I was under the impression that something went wrong in the first 14 days or whatever (ie. opened the box and returned it) and apple can no longer sell it as new. So they fix what ever they might need to and sell it at a discount. So lightly used I guess you could call it.

I got a refurb MacBook last week, absolutely perfect, the only way I could tell it was refurbished was the 'certified refurbished' sticker on the box.

Didn't get any extra goodies tho.

    A bargain at the price.

My old PowerBook was a refurbished item and it was immaculate. Even had the "new Apple" smell, which I assume comes in a spray.

What goodies didn't you get? Do you still get the restore discs or mouse and KB (iMac)?

Don't even joke. People would pay that, I am sure of it. Steve Jobs could bottle his farts and people would gobble them up.

If you do get a refurb though, do not be tempted to throw away the dull brown box. Keep it for if you ever need to post it somewhere.

What they mean is they didn't get any extras. From time to time your RAM or Hard Drive is upgraded from what it was listed on the site.

e.g. ordered with 512Mb of RAM and it cam with 1GB.

You will still get the restore discs and other accessories that it would come with if it were new.

Mac sure you check the processor specs when you get it - I know of someone that last friday got the wrong computer from what they had ordered :(

But other than that - enjoy the new toy when you get it!!
