I want to start off college with a clean disk on my Powerbook, so I decided to do a Erase and Install from the recovery disks but I have a two questions before I start.

My Powerbook came with iLife 05', and I installed a one user copy of iLife 06' as well as iWork 06'. When I complete the reinstall, will those disks install the apps? Will the apps work?

Would a Erase and Install be enough to clear out some messed up files and improve performance, or would using Security Options in Disk Utility be more helpful?

    Thanks

on the install select custom install and do the unticking to save lots of space ie printer drivers and such - on the restore cd's the 2nd one is normaly the iLife stuff just miss it out

Back everything up thoroughly if you're going to do this.

Don't bother with the security options, they'll be a big waste of time and put your hard drive through more grief than it's worth.

You'll need the separate iLife and iWork discs if you're using versions that are more current than those bundled with the restore discs. The restore discs should have a trial of iWork and an old version of iLife in the meantime though. :)

Your iLife '06 and iWork '06 Discs will let you reinstall them on your freshly formatted drive.

'Erase and Install' should be sufficient for what you are looking for. Good luck.

    EDIT: Beaten to the punch!

Thanks for the replies, but I have one more question that is kinda like the iLife one. I installed the Student/Teacher Edition of Office 2004 awhile back and now all three lics. are used up. Will I be able to reinstall Office from that same disk or do I have to buy another one? If I can use the same disk, is this the norm for most software titles? Do they just match the computers serial number with that of the software?

one user license one machine no problem as long as you have the original CD and code with it

I just finished reinstalling OS X and Backup helped a ton. Just under four hours from backing up stuff to fully up and running. Right now im just looking around for my Office CD, otherwise, everything is great. All the apps launch with just one bounce instead of three. Thanks for the help guys.
