Instead of posting the same obscure complaint in multiple threads, why not spend the time to actually explain what the problem is?

No one here is a mind reader.

The Applescript error would have shown more info, take 15 seconds to actually type it out and maybe someone can help.

Currently using ATI Radeon HD 4890 on a Mac Pro. Ever since OSX was upgraded to 10.6.4, only one monitor works and the other one is blank. And when played video, it's very sluggish. Anyone knows why and how to fix this?

need a beta tester with a 4890 and or a 4870 1gb

you need:

original rom of card

the rom you are flashed with

and a working card

testing should take ~15min

Good test for you

Here you go Cindori, a nice test of your app.

This is ROM from an Asus 4870 512 Meg that someone brought for me to flash.

I put the regular 512 rom on it and get multiple "bings" at boot.

So, time for reflash in a PC.

it's an "80" rom, complete with the little "out in the middle of nowhere" 44aa Asus BS. your fave.

how nice of you

actually, I have not made my script compatible with 80 for that reason. random adresses are a pain to adapt for with my commands so I will leave it be for now.

Zeus 1.3 flash failed on XFX HD-487A-ZWFC 1GB

My config:
Mac1,1
New XFX HD-487A-ZWFC 1GB installed in lowest 16-lane slot
10.6.4
Zeus 1.3
ROM image: 4870/XFX ZWFL & ZWFC/mac modified.rom
Existing NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT used for display

First flashing attempt failed with an Applescript error (sorry can't cut/paste exact script dialog text) to the effect that some particular script couldn't be found. I was NOT running Zeus from /Applications folder - are script paths hard-coded?

After dismissing dialog, flashing "progress" indicator continued, but I waited several minutes and wasn't confident it was actually doing anything. So I quit Zeus (and it didn't complain.)

Moved Zeus.app to /Applications and tried again. No Applescript error, but different Failed dialog:

Flash Aborted! Possible reasons:
ROM already identical to card firmware
Card not compatible with ROM or Zeus.

No other obvious error messages in the Console.

I tried reflashing with original.bin and got the same "ROM already identical" message. Restarted the machine and repeated - no change.

I didn't think 4870 w/1GB was "exotic", but I downloaded latest QE_1064.pkg and installed QE_CE_Exotic from the desktop anyway. Retried Zeus with both ROM images, but I'm getting the same "ROM already identical" message. 4870 still not recognized by System Profiler.

What should I try next?

I still need those beta testers

if you have a flashed 4870 or 4890 + original rom... you are eligible

it will just take like 15 min

cant release next Zeus version without getting this tested

A reflashed working card is exactly what most people reading this thread don't have. If The Rominator can edit that that ZWFC Rev G.1 image I uploaded then I'll try ATIFlash with it.

And if that works then maybe it will be useful for your next Zeus revision. I assume you are looking at it to test the EFI-patching capability you're adding to Zeus?

Best to try this with...Zeus 2.0 beta?

Actually, scratch that question...I'd forgotten this curious fact:

When I originally installed the XFX HD 487A ZWFC G.1 in Slot 1 of my 10.6.4 MacPro1,1 alongside my original GeForce 7300GT, the XFX card was politely ignored by MacOS and I could boot and drive the monitor from the 7300.

Now, strangely, since I got the XFX working under Boot Camp under WinXP with all the XFX drivers installed, I get a KP whenever trying to boot with the 4870 installed (slot 1, all power cables attached.)

This is preventing me from running any MacOS flashing tools and forces me back into the bootcd/Windows world to get this working.

Is there any chance that installing the XFX drivers in Windows updated something in the XFX ROM and that's causing the incompatibility that I wasn't seeing before? MacOS KPs during boot while executing the com.apple.ATIRadeonX2000 extension.

I removed Natit.kext and ATY_init.kext and that didn't seem to affect the KP phenomenon.

you probably did not use power cables when you successfully booted osx. that would avoid the drivers to try an initialize the pc card, and crash. when you use power cables, it will (on some cards)

No absolutely not, I have never installed the 4870 without both cables energized. And it's impossible to mistake the sound of that fan!

Something else was going on. 4870 was a benign presence in MacOS for several days until I got it running under Boot Camp.

I see now that the presence of the 4870 KP's my Mac when booting into my 10.6.4 install; but when I boot into my emergency boot partition which is a fairly pristine 10.6.1 install it sits there quietly with the fan running and doesn't interfere.

So something with the card conflicts with my 10.6.4 but not my 10.6.1 installation. Neither system includes Natit nor ATY_init.

90% success for ZWFC Rev G.1

no I really want to test a natit patcher
But anyway I tried my EFI-patcher of Zeus 2.0 beta on your firmware, let me know how it works

@Cindori: Reflashed my ZWFC using your mod'd version of my G.1 ROM with atiflash under HBCD.

It runs with full QE/CI under 10.6.1. (Though I do get the power cable warning). OpenGL tests running at over 1500 fps - sweet!

However, card was running without QE/CI under 10.6.4. (Power cable warning here too.) KP on wake. Same as what the 4890 guys are going through, I guess.

Applied latest (?) netkas QE_CI exotic cards patch for 10.6.4 as well as the version that Zeus references (would be nice to know what URL it comes from), but no behavior change. All loaded extensions showed rev 1.6.16. I did not address the "framebuffer check" - left it enabled but I don't know if I should have unchecked that instead.

Then I applied the Drexus extension package and kext helper method. This seems like an awful hack, but I got QE/CI running!

Though performance is not nearly as good as under 10.6.1: OpenGL tests are only running at about 350 fps - that's slower than my creaky old GeForce 7300 runs the same tests.

But eliminated KP on wake, so this is a usable system again. Card Fan speed-cycles but is not "full on." Mirroring works out the 2nd DVI port! Didn't expect that, from the reports. I don't have a 2nd monitor so haven't been able to check extended desktop.

I have to admit that I only applied a partial "Drexus fix": I did not reinstall Combo 10.6.4 update before applying his kext package. Is there anything I missed in his technique that might get me from current 90% functionality to 100%?
