Ever read that story about the guy who bought a Gateway for his daughter? It never worked right, so one day he brought it in to a Gateway store, and very calming put it down on the counter. Then he hit it with a sledgehammer.

    Ha!

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/24733.html

Now Gateway. I predict they will be out of business in a couple of years. It's too bad, I used to like them. Almost got a job at one of their stores. Didn't one of you work there?

Where's that guy with the sig about the CEO of Gateway taking advice from a talking cow?

This kind of BS being pushed forth as technical journalism has never ceased to piss me off. I'm not a big fan of the kind of hardware ineptness we've been getting from Apple the past 3 years now, but these Windows nuts use the most moronic criteria for ringing Apple's death nell. I've stopped reading these ridiculous stories, having started with ZDNet, Dvorak, etc. No more web hits from me. We gotta stop biting the bait guys, otherwise these idiots are gonna keep throwing it out.

Hey... gotta great quote here of utmost relevance:

"Folks, the Mac platform is through -- totally..." John Dvorak, 1998

Wish I had the link for that.

A friend of mine once told me a story once about when the only place you could buy phones was from the phone company. He kept returning the phone he had to the phone companies store down at the mall and after he had done this a half dozen times they refused to help him. Even though the phone was a piece of ****. So he calmly took it out into the crowded walkway in the mall in front of the store and proceeded to beat the phone into pieces. Apparently he drew quite a crowd and had to be escorted off by the police.

    Good one.

Because, of course, it must have been his fault they made crappy phones. I've dealt with companies like that. They never get my business again. Would suck if a monopoly did it.

To draw a parallel, can you imagine a world with out alternatives to the PC? Having to buy all of your computers through, like, Dell?

    Or worse. MicroSoft.

    :shudder:
