I remember a while back apple was in discussion with blue-ray. And people on this forum were saying it would probably end up in the pro model intels. This was around the time steve mentioned the merge with intel. What's going on with that? Does anyone think the Mac pros will have Blue-ray readers available? they could come in handy

A couple of things... I don't think we're quite there yet as far as putting HD recorders in computers. I would almost guarantee, though, that Apple will be one of the first companies to do this as they have always shown themselves to be early adopters of technologies. However, there is only one HDR drive on the market, that I know of, and the price is still very high (around $1000). So while I know it will happen (probably within a year), I'm not sure exactly when. But I don't think the first revision of the Mac Pro will have a BluRay (or HD DVD) drive in it.

Sony is bringing out desktops and a laptop with Blu-Ray burning capabilities this summer. (Never mind that the laptop carries a $1700 premium over the non-Blu-Ray version and has a battery life of 90 minutes...)

I wouldn't be shocked if the Rev A MacPros had Blu-Ray burners in them, but my inkling is that they won't.

Alienware has a Blu-Ray computer as well (the 7500?).

Apple isn't the first this time around, but given their prices, I don't think that's a bad thing. They still could be first in putting into a consumer machine.
