Hello all,

I bought a used Macbook Pro and I keep getting a notice for an update under the previous users Apple ID. I have tried to remove all instances of this ID but it still keeps coming up. How do I permanently remove this ID from the computer?

Jim,

There should be an easier way to remove an apple id associated with an app store update than to wipe and reinstall system software.

Have you removed the software that was associated with that Apple ID? Technically, it's licensed to that ID and if you continue to use the software and you are not the owner of that Apple ID it's not licensed to you for use.

If it's prompting when trying to update, it's because one of the apps on your computer was purchased with that ID. You'll need to delete the app. It's always advisable to completely wipe any computer that you get second-hand, however, for a variety of good reasons.
