Why is the stock exchange inquiring about a 10% increase in stock price? Of course it was driven by the US announcements...

Probably because it caused a spike in the share price. Most other shares on the New Zealand Stock exchange havent doubled their value since April 2005 ;)
The NZX may not have been aware of the Apple press release since it wasn't headline news down here. I think the NZX just wanted a clarification that nothing suspect was going on like insider trading or some thing. We don't have Apple Computer here in New Zealand we just have a company called Renaissance that has its own Apple division. They are the sole Apple agent in NZ.

It shouldn't really take a genius at the NZX to look at what Renaissance's line of business and spend two minutes Googling Apple to find out what the deal is. Instead they generate red tape...I know it's not a big deal (or even a medium deal), but it is a little silly.

They'll look into it, find nothing, and everything will go back to normal. Nothing to see here folks, move it along.

Well I know it is obvious to everybody on this forum regarding Apples excellerating success on the NASDAQ, but up against the numerous other companies listed on the NZX it is very unusual to see that sort of share spike after anysort of press announcement relating to a local company which would have caused the interest from the exchange commision. A lot of New Zealanders attribute Apple's recent success soley to the iPod and would tell you that as soon as the iPod is beaten by a competitor Apple shares will take a hit but then they don't 'Get it' do they ;)
