My brother just called me this morning. My mother passed away at 5am today. She was in a nursing home in Middletown, Ohio. Her doctor diagnosed her with Alzheimer's just a month ago. She died in her sleep with a Hospice Home Health Aide at her bedside. Under that program they are treated with dignity. She was receiving pain medication due to restlessness. So she was comfortable and at peace.

I'm very sorry to hear your news, my father died last year in his sleep, it's not easy for those left behind.

Just be thankful she never had to suffer the full effects of Alzheimers, it's an awful disease.

    My thoughts are with you.

Same story here -- sorry for your loss -- hospices are really great though and usually underfunded. When my mom's dad died, the hospice was so great that she changed her line of work to that field. They really do an incredible job helping people pass in comfort (physically and psychologically). I encourage all to donate to their local hospice organizations!

Very sorry to hear of your loss. It's indeed positive that it was peaceful, I think that's very important. It also may be a blessing that she did not have to suffer the hell that alzheimer's can cause. That may sound callous to everyone else, but wdlove has probably seen the effects firsthand, as have i.

Strength be with you and your family.

I really appreciate everyone's kind words. Your kindness means a lot to me. It isn't easy to lose a Mom. I feel better knowing she wasn't alone and was comfortable. :(

My thoughts are with you and your family. My best friends' mother passed just two weeks ago, and just last week our Apple representative for San Diego City Schools' said farewell to his mother as well. :(

Hospice is a very good service. My grandmother was in it when she died. Much better than a hospital! :) Sorry mate.

    My thoughts are with you.

It's always unfortunate for the living when a loved one dies. I hope that you will be comforted in that so many of us will have you in our thoughts.

Considering how memory loss and confusion hurt my dad everyday, I hope that your mother didn't have to suffer through much of it.
