Thought I'd switch from Chrome and give Safari 6.0 a try but might be switching back already for something so minor that I can't believe Apple didn't think of it.

When I open a new tab (usually cmd-t) why isn't the focus on the search bar so I can just type what I'm looking for? Having to click in the search bar before typing is so frustrating.

    Works here.

CMD + T - and I can type in the address bar - focus is already there.

Just checked I wasn't going mad, and with the homepage I had set (www.google.co.uk) the focus was not on the Safari address bar.

Just tried a few other sites and some focus on the address bar and others don't. Have set Top Sites when opening a new tab as this appears to focus on the address bar every time.

    Thanks

Some sites have scripts that grab the focus, like Google. It's because they assume if you go to their site, you want to use their search function. Would likely have done the same in Chrome, btw.
