The last couple of weeks, Safari seems unable to load Javascript files. Anytime I try to load a website where a Javascript file needs to be loaded, it stalls (no beachball, though) for at least two minutes while it tries to load the file. Once it gives up on the file, it loads everything else normally. However, other files that needed to be loaded often time out while waiting for Safari to load the Javascript file. It even holds up web pages loading in other tabs and/or windows. The best example is actually with apple.com, though this happens with other websites, such as eBay and HSX. In the screenshots below, the first one is while it's stalled trying to load the file, the next one is after it's given up on the file.

I've tried repairing permissions to no avail. Anybody have any ideas?

    Safari Problems

I just had the exact same problem this weekend. My brother suggested checking the preferences. (Which I did, and they were both checked (Java and JavaScript.) I went to the apple website and updated Safari and that helped the JavaScript problem, but not the Java problem. (I couldn't see the "glow" effect on one of my webpages, but at least the scrolling marquee finally worked.)

I'm still having problems with plain old Java, but here's the link to the Safari update. I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance!

You guys do realize that Safari version 1.2 (from the Apple Safari page) is outdated, right? The latest Panther release of Safari is 1.2.2, NOT 1.2. Version 1.2.2 comes with your Mac OS X 10.3.4 package.

Well, my Safari problems just got WAY bigger. I restarted and the entire contents of my home directory was deleted. I wiped the hard drive (I have a backup of almost everything), but now I'm having one hell of a time getting on the Internet and my PB can't even download anything from Software Update because it can't connect to the server. It wouldn't be a big deal, except I can't get on apple.com to download the updates from the web. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGH!
