Samsung as rumored last month has announced the Galaxy S7 edge will be available in a new "Black Pearl" color in select markets starting tomorrow. The glossy finish, exclusive to 128GB versions of the smartphone, will inevitably draw comparisons to the Jet Black iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Samsung already offered the Galaxy S7 edge and ill-fated Galaxy Note7 in a somewhat glossy Black Onyx finish, so we will have to wait for actual photos of the new Black Pearl color to see the difference between the two colorways. Samsung said the all-black finish "radiates quality and luxury."
Black Pearl was designed to be modern and striking. The sleek black finish blankets the entire device - edges and all - and adds depth to its glass design. The result is a stylish all-black aesthetic that captures the essence of the color in its purest form.
The new color arrives nearly two months after Samsung permanently discontinued the Galaxy Note7 following battery-related safety risks.

Samsung following in the footsteps of iPhone colors is not unprecedented. Earlier this year, it released the Galaxy S7 in Pink Gold after Apple launched the iPhone 6s in Rose Gold last year. However, in Samsung's defense, it has offered some variation of a pink smartphone in select markets since at least 2012.

The new color follows reports Samsung's next-generation Galaxy S8 will not include a headphone jack, following in the footsteps of the Moto Z in June and iPhone 7 in September. The Galaxy S8 is also said to have a bezel-free display and virtual home button, two features rumored for Apple's next iPhones.

And I'll be dubbed a fanboy for making statements that imply Samsung's ideas are 'inspired' by Apple. Pfft. Give me a break. I will never buy a Samsung product again because I refuse to encourage a company with nothing other than copying as part of their strategy. They may be Apple's main competitor but it doesn't mean they are a worthy one.

The Samsung branding they put on the front and back of their phones looks really tacky. I hate overt branding in general.

I like my matte black iPhone with its stealth black Apple logo. I was talking up the black colour long before they announced the 7 so I feel like maybe I had a part in its return! :p

The MB 7 is like a non-flakey iPhone 5!

They've had this color before for special edition Galaxy Edges before the iPhone 7 was ever released.

Lol, it's funny but as a longtime iPhone user, I never even would have considered an Android phone, let alone a Samsung phone, if not for all of the press this site gives Samsung! I actually come here first for Android news and Samsung news before I head on over to Android Central and other sites.

This morning I came here to check out the latest iOS and IPhone news and see how things were going with the new MacBook pros and lo and behold it's two back to back articles on Samsung that greet my eyes. I'm not complaining. I love my S7 Edge and my HTC 10 just got its update to Nougat--very exciting and I would not be doing nearly so well on Android if not for the help and advice I've received here on MacRumors. But I'd love to get my SE back up and running again once all the beta testing is finished up on iOS 10.
