    Unfortunately. . .

There seems to be very little to prevent someone from copying a design. Since they changed the name, no one would really be confused between the two, but it still isn't right.

I may have read this wrong (I've had a few glasses of wine) but this is about a second factory opening up to produce iPods for Apple - no copying of design.

I hope this means that they won't have the supply problems in the second half of this year which led to many retailers (in the UK at least) being out of stock of iPods and Minis for much of the Christmas season.

In other news, sources reveal that the Apple maintenance division will be purchasing bathroom fixtures from both Toto and Bobrick. "We believe that some healthy competitive acquisition will create a bold new synergistic paradigm," a source close to the iPod maker stated. Representatives from Apple had no comment.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this and it's just sound business to have more than one supplier of such a critical product, but. As supply seems to have been meeting demand for some time now (all iPods are are showing as available to ship from Apple in 24hrs) I'd have thought that they'd be stock piling ready for Christmas so a second supplier wouldn't be required. Unless they can't stock-pile because by Christmas there'll be a NEW iPod product!

It may have simply been a way to make the deal more attractive to Asus, who are also assembling the iPod Shuffle. By getting some of the mini production, they had something to cushion the blow in case the Shuffle didn't sell as well as it has.
