We just started using Mail on our new G5. Previously, on our old machine, we used an OS9 version of Entourage. Entourage allowed my wife and I to set up seperate accounts that we could switch back or forth between. When she checked her mail, she only downloaded HER mail.

In Mail, we set up the two different accounts, but when she downloads her mail, she also downloads my mail. Is there anyway to check only ONE account, and not the other? The problem is while I'm at work I like to check my mail using a web-based system. However, when she's home and checks her mail, all my mail gets downloaded and I can't check it from work. This is annoying!

    Scott,

You should just set up a seperate user account for your wife in OS X.

Then you both can not only have your own mail, but also own preferences, docks, files, etc...

I thought of that, but wouldn't I have to basically restart the whole machine whenever we wanted to switch? That would be very annoying. I don't want to have to shut down programs and whatever just to do a quick email check.

In 10.2 you must log-out, thus quitting all running apps. You don't have to restart the Mac, though.
In 10.3 there is one brilliant little feature called "fast user swicthing". So using Panther you will be able to log into another account WITHOUT quitting applications running on another account!

So your solution is available October 24th! :)

Quitting all apps is about the same as restarting as far as I'm concerned. The quick use switch, though, that sounds good.

The idea is if I'm working one something and my wife wants to check her mail, I can quickly do that without quiting what I'm working on. On the other side, I want her to be able to check only her mail while I'm at work so I can still read stuff below it's downloaded off my server.

    Thanks!
