i noticed that in activity monitor, even when doing processor intensive tasks, it never uses more than half of each core, i looked in energy saver where the setting to set the processor performance to "highest" is usually located and there is nothing there....i don't get it, can anyone help?

Yeah, I looked for that one too. The nearest thing I could find was the processor preference panel that appears after installing the CHUG tools, it allows you to at least turn of one of the cores which could be quite useful on a MacBook Pro.
