Good to know our foreign disaster aid will be as well coordinated as our domestic aid...

Yeah keep the patronage to the cakewalk ambassadorships and lets get competent people to head up the agencies that matter. And that should go for both parties.

Well, at least people are paying more attention to when people in high places give jobs to their friends that are vastly unqualified. Cushy jobs are bad enough, but I hope they question everyone from now on. As if the fact that Bolton being where he is now didn't teach us something.

Why? It just shows how contemptuous you are of foreign countries that you should send out these monkeys to represent you.

Well I'm working under the assumption that patronage is unavoidable. I wish it were otherwise, but at least if it's gonna happen do it where people's lives aren't on the line. If you know of a way to rid the government entirely of it, I'd like to hear!

Besides, being inept and being a prick are two different things. You can be clueless and still be courteous.

At the risk of being obvious, I would point out that all UK ambassadors are generally career diplomats.

Are you telling me that there is no part of British government that is touched by patronage?
