Maria Sharapova just destroyed Serena Williams 6-1, 6-4 to win Wimbledon at just 17 years of age.

    BBC Article.

It was amazing to watch such a young and relatively unknown crushing such a well known, and powerful name as Serena.

Now for the mens, Roger Federer vs Andy Roddick. That'll make for a great mens final.

    Martina Hingis was 16...

But I'm really happy for her... Nice to see a newbie that high... oh, yeah, only 17... still forbidden in many countries...
    :p :D ;)

Terrific match. Hopefully she won't end up like Kournikova... ;) :D

she's already set herself apart from Kournikova - she won something!

    hehe

btw, to obeygiant sounds like she's already taken - remember what she said after the match, inspired by a special person who she didn't name.

And after the match Serena did her usual thing...

"Yea, I played pretty bad today, she played pretty good."

Serena never admits that she was bested in a fair match. It's always her fault she loses...

Maria Sharapova did very well for herself , but people have 2 remember Serena is still not 100% Physically or Mentally. She needs to get her Killer edge back in order for her 2 be the player she was a year ago. I stil beileve if's it's Serena at 100% vs. any one else she's unbeatable just like Ali, Woods or Jordan , Serena know's this that's why she always beats herself up after losing a match. Martina Hingis learned that the hard way...lol. well see what happens at the U.S. Open

It may not have been such a blow out if Serena would just lay off charging the net. She just lobed them over her head so there was no way she could get them. :p

It is quite a feat that not only she was 17 but ranked 16th and defeated the #1.

Plus she looks like kornikova and she can play tennis.

So she's more talented than Kournikova. Better looking? I say without question. :D

Please. "Good" looking, yes. "Better than AK" looking, no. Not that AK sets new levels of beauty, but she's a bit higher up that ladder.

that's good to hear, cause my friend had taped a live feed of her semi match with lindsey, and at the end when she won, they showed something that shouldn't be shown on US tv... if you looked really closely that is.. but in 10 months and 3 days, ill talk about it more. :)

Sorry. I don't get it and have always that she was vastly overrated. She's got a fat boring face and sets no new levels of beauty for me. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't disagree. I just personally put her higher up. But hey, why argue? It doesn't matter unless both of them are fighting over you and you need to choose. Barring that, to each his own (not literally, sadly ;)).
