okay, lovin 10.3, can't say it's a bad step up from OS 9 :), but I do have one major thing I'm tryin to work out (actually 2, but they're related).

main thing, i want to share my music with the other users on the computer. I've tried making an alias to my music folder, and changing the permissions of the folders, but for some unknown reason, no matter how many times i try to change the permissions of the folders, it won't apply the changes to the enclosed folders (and yes, i did hit the button to apply to all enclosed folders).

major pain... i want everyone to share the same music.

similarly, i would love to share photos between users - sharing one folder, so that we don't have separate albums going on. i tried making another alias to my photo library and changing permissions, but when i fire up iphoto with it like that, it crashes.
of course, i haven't tried it since i updated to 10.3.3 (only been using x now for a little over a day) so maybe i should try again.

and maybe i should repair my permissions when i get home.

on a side note, is there any way to automatically have my files permissions set so that everyone can read/write them? so i don't have to go through with 'get info' to try and change every document i have so that my wife can access it if she wants to w/o having to log in under my name?

    questions, questions.

but i am loving 10.3 - and i'm glad i waited to jump into 10 until 10.3 - seems like some of the features that people talk about on here (that were not present in x.2) would have made me far less content than what i am...

put all the files you want to share in the public folder. that folder is accessible by everyone.

once you put the files in the public folder, remeber to point apps such as iPhoto or iTunes to the new location so if you rip a new cd or such it will always put the music there!

There's another thread around here somewhere that someone outlined a process for this, it mainly involved aliases to the playlist preference and a couple other folders I think, but then any user that put in a CD would automatically put it in everyone's library while it was all the same library.

hmm... guess that would make sense...

ever look back at a question with a really simple answer and realize that the way you wanted to do it was stupid and harder than it had to be?

    thanks guys... preciate it...

All the freakin' time, that's one of the beauties of a Mac. :)

BTW I took my music folder and put it on a seperate drive. To 'share' it with the other user accounts on the computer all I had to do was redirect the library path in each accounts iTunes prefs.
