    hi all,

I've won a PowerMac G5 off eBay... i have friends in Sydney who picked it up for me on Saturday gone. now i've just got to find some way to get it shipped up to Brisbane.

if anyone can recommend someone, and how to arrange shipping insurance etc, it would be greatly appreciated. :)

i did get 1 quote so far... from an Australian company calling themselves "SEND" - Sensitive Electronic National Distribution. looks like they took alot of effort to make a name that fit the acronym. :p the quote they gave ended up being around AU$200. is this what i've got to expect to pay?

I have to imagine your national postage service will ship something like that. I have no idea what the rates will be though. Your choice should also depend on the kind of packaging the pm has. If you have access to the original packaging it'll be well protected and shouldn't require specialist shipping.

Also doesn't UPS and/or Fedex do business in Australia? If so, they might make for a good alternative. Maybe even TNT, which is quite big here in Europe.

You could fly to Sydney and back (and pick it up) for about AU$140. I did it myself two weeks ago.

i have definitely thought about flying, but since it's not in it's original box... i'm not too comfortable leaving it in the cargo hold of the plane. but i guess it's still an option...

also i'm going to check and see if Australia Post would handle this, and if they offer insurance. the big thing for me is finding someone who offers insurance...

i'm having a really hard time finding some decept pricing for couriers. i just called DHL and got a quote for shipping based on a weight of 25Kg's for the PM. including insurance it's ~AU$300.

for that price, it would be cheaper to drive to Sydney to pick it up.

also if anyone has ideas/suggestions for packing a PM in it's non-original boxes, i could really use some ideas.

also Australia Post doesn't handle anything over 20Kg... and they don't offer insurance. and FedEx only handles international orders to and from Aus, no domestic stuff.

    help! :(

Hmm, I can't be much help other than to say that if you don't have the original foam then clothing and towels in particular can be a good substitute. :)
