I have pointed out sign mispellings at a lot of resturants. I can think of a few off the top of my head, even though I have noticed a bunch.

Friendly's in Rhode Island "Open from 7:00am to 12:00pm"
Only open for 5 hours? hehe

Diner in Boston area: "No Crossword Puzzels"
What is a puzzel? maybe a puzzle?

Resturant in in Rhode Island: I can't remember the whole sign but it said "....4rth....". I donno, but isn't fourth usually abbreviated at 4th\

I have a lot more, but I just can't remember them

    Thats beside the point.

    I'm talking about business signs.

I would like you to know that I am in honors english :)

Don't sentences start with captials and end with periods, unless a question or excalmation???

Maybe your post should have been more like this
    No, f-o-u-r-t-h is abbreviated "4th"!

having taken AP english, i know all too well that lots of idiots can get into honours english...so that's not really a selling point for me :p

a thread about misspellings should be spelled correctly.

that's the only reason i pointed out your error...otherwise i wouldn't have thought twice about it.

Not a misspelling, but still an error...

"Express Bags 0.10c each" - So 0.1 cents each, or 10 for 1 cent :)
Of course, the girl at the checkout had absolutely no idea what I was talking about

    Oh, and by the way:

There is also the strange McDonald's banner ad that ran early this year:

I saw a sign on the door of a university research lab last month. It wasn't a misspelling, but it had me a little worried. It said "When accidents occur, call this number...". Why did it say when instead of if? Are accidents guaranteed to occur?

Sorry for the double post, but I've got another one.

There is a thrift shop (discount store) in Los Angeles that has had "TRIFT SHOP" on their main sign for years, perhaps for a decade.

If any of you caught Nightline last night, there was a small piece toward the end about a Los Angeles couple whose house had been vandalized. Long story short, the former owners of the house were of Arab/Middle Eastern descent, but did the change in ownership stop the vandals? No of course not. Hastily scribbled in spray paint on the wall of the house near the front door was the creative slur "terrist" and what appeared to be an aborted attempt to add an arrow pointing to the door.

I'm forced to only wonder at what they meant.

only when you give a crap.

just to address that comment. ;)

no one is perfect; often times people don't care to be so particular on a forum setting... i know i don't. don't sweat it, you'll live longer. :)

One of my all-time favorites is a billboard that reads, in part, "Pinching Penny's?". Whenever my wife or I see it, it's become an almost involuntary response for one of us to ask the other, "Pinching Penny's What?" ;)

OK, first sentence here, no punctuation. Nice.

Second sentence, Mr. Honors English, you spelled "capitals" AND "exclamation" wrong. Wonderful..

I don't think being picky gets anyone anywhere..

I had one teacher dock points if the students didn't add two spaces after each sentence. She drove me nuts cuz I hate wasting space on a printed page.

Two spaces after each sentence? What's the point in that? Is that some sort of standard or is it just this teacher? I would never do that. It simply makes no point. And it makes the text appear fragmented and harder to read.

I believe it harkens back to the dark ages when people used these implements called "typewriters" or some such thing. Two spaces provided a better visual break in the text.

That standard is no longer to use two spaces now that we're all using these newfangled computer gadgets.

As for one of my favorite signs (not a misspelling) was a billboard on a Kentucky interstate for Charley's Tattoos. Charley's motto? "Tattoos while you wait." I was hoping to order mine online.

Second was a sign for "Used Fireworks for Sale."

I thought moping while cleaning was standard practice.

At least that's what I tell my wife.

It does if you yourself don't make mistakes. I once challenged others here to find an actual* misspelling of a word in any of my posts... no one did.

    * Intentional contractions like "gonna" and "yer" don't count. Sometimes I type like I speak.

I'm the same way, only it's not a challenge. If I make a typo, I want it pointed out to me.

I have no recollection of that... what words did I supposedly misspell?

And if I edit it BEFORE anyone calls me out, it's still a win for me... ;)
