In case you wern't aware, Maxis is developing The Next Generation Sim City Game. The only problem I see is since Maxis is part of EA, and EA doesn't release Mac Games, will they hand it over to Aspyr to Recompile? How Long will it take? Or Do You Even Care?

That would be great, especally since you can import your sims people into SC4 and hopefully an Apple Store will appear as a building.

    SimCity 3000/Sims/GTA3

A cross of these games would be the ultimate time wasting addiction. A city that you could build at the detail and immersion of GTA3 with the character development of The Sims would probably be classified as a drug in respect to the amount of escapism it would induce in game players. It would just be too fun to create an entire environment that you could cruise through and maintain.

I remember when I was 12 or so playing Populous for so long on my Genesis that it actually started smoking... I'm talking days here. Open-ended games like SimCity and GTA3 are blurring the line between simple linear gameplay and virtual reality. I spend more time in GTA3 just roaming around than actually completing "missions". That's partly because I'm a 3D artist and I'm fascinated with the technology/artistry, but also because I can fully immerse myself in the environment... just standing at a street corner watching the rain fall, the refractions, the trees sway, and the ambient sounds... of course playing this game on my LCD projector that projects an 8x6 foot screen probably adds a great deal to this.

I guess what I'm getting at is that non-linear games are the future and I'd love to see a Sim game that has NO clear objective and just lets you create an environment and investigate it. There might be a win/lose criteria, but the game would be more "production" than "consumption". Maybe that's too much to ask from a commercial game, but I hope it will happen within the next 5 years.

    Hope that made sense :)

Now that someone has ported Direct X to the Mac, it should be fairly simple, if they used direct x to make the game, to port it to the mac. It won't be a cocoa app, though.

Some company came and did a demo of their laser point to point network product, and their slides had screen shots from simcity 2000 to show how far you could use their product. They converted the color to sepia though. It was definitely sim city.

    Really?

    Source?

I'd be interested to see why Microsoft gave up their proprietary 3D engine/technology.

    Re: Sim City 4

EA has begun to release Mac software titles (with the help of Westlake and Aspyr, of course. ;) )

Undying and MoH:AA are just some of the titles.

As well as the Sims.

I know that EA outsources some of their games, but usually it takes several month before the Mac Version comes out.

Personally I'd Like to See Mac versions of GTA3, And EA new game.... Battlefield 1942. That game is awesome.

I've heard rumors that it *might* make it to the Mac.

The question is if it does, when will it?

Westlake Interactive has as of this post an unnamed project called "The Finest Hour."

A lot of rumors have been flying around. Most people think it is 1942..

    Maybe....

    Just maybe....

If they do port SimCity4 to OS X, let's pray that the optimize the code. Otherwise, only those with the latest PowerMacs will have a chance at running that game well. SimCity 3000 is pokey on my P3-866 with Windows 2k, imagine it running on OS X.

i reckon if they ported gta 3 to the mac then almost every mac gamer would buy it, and a few others who don't bother with games would also buy it if they had the system requirements to do it.

gta3 is alright, but it's not for everyone.

i'd much rather see 1942 come to the mac at the same time the pc version is out.

I heard from an Apple Store Software Specialist that Battlefield 1942 is coming to the mac between Thanksgiving and Christmas. He even said that they were going to produce tons of copys so it would be fully available for Christmas. I was the one who told 1984 this info. 1984, Dont steal my rumors! I don't weant to have to get the whip...
