My excitement metre just got shot to pieces.

Sim City DS, which actually is just a portable version of SC3k (IMO the best Sim City... nay... the best god game ever) with a little Will Wright character as some kind of Navi alternative. Looks to be no sign of Barrel Rolling or Hold A to Charge Your Laser, but nothings perfect.

 That does look quite cool! I might get a DS later this year if this turns out to be really really good...

I thought they did some amazing things with sc3k and completely butchered the experience with sc4. I will probably now have to get a ds around the time this hits especially with phantom hourglass seemingly dropping off of everybody radar.

    Best screenshots so far.

I hope the DS is powerful enough to run this game at a decent pace even with large cities. Cheetah anyone?

Looks pretty good, but the more I think about it, the more I fail to get that excited about a game a played to death many years ago :(

Possibly. But imagine how awesome this will be with the touch-screen. I didn't even know they were developing this.

It was the other way around for me- I didn't like SimCity 3000 but loved SimCity 4.

Best SimCity ever? SimCity 2000. Easily. I could make waterfalls all day long!

Yup. Without a doubt. Out of every game I've ever played, SC2000 is probably the one I spent most time on. And I didn't even like the original Sim City very much.

And I still wanna live in one of these:

Lots on new shots. (Disasters included)

    Here

    and

    here.

Anybody else noticed that in all the screenshots we've seen so far, the ratio of Streets/Parks VS Buldings is much higher than what we're used to? I love building concrete jungles. I hope it's still economically possible in Sim City DS. ^_^

Actually looks decent. I don't know why anyone would play the DS version besides for portability. They need some cool features to have me get this version.

The only one I spent countless hours on was Sim City 2000. Arcologies rule.

That's the exact reason I want it. ^_^ Perfect for the transit to/from work. Also, this game type is very well suited to be played in short sessions. (Pick up and play). I'm a big RPG fan but these aren't as well suited for short 20-30 minute gaming sessions.

anybody know how the game is doing in Japan? Decent reviews?

those graphics look pretty crappy to me, the DS has so much potential, but nintendo just don't want to seem to put the effort into making the graphics as good as the PSP, i brought a gameboy advance (the flip one) and haven't found it particularly enjoyable, mostly because of the none existent ability to save my progress on the games i own, i have to enter a code every time i want to get to a certain level

    This is a EA game.

(I personally think it looks quite nice for a game that runs on a 67 MHz / 656 KB VRAM / 256 x 192 pixels portable console)

You must have been very unlucky in your game selection and bought every single last "password" games out there. All the GBA games I have owned used save games. ^_^ (Although often limited to 1-3)

Looks more like a cross between 2000 and 3000. (I loved 2000). This is a must have.

I've only played one GBA game, EVER, that didn't have a save function, and it was a children's game sent to me as a review copy (Noddy in Toyland).

What crap games are you playing?

Also, this is designed as a port of Sim City, so the graphics are going to look like...*gasp* Sim City!
